Only 5% of plastic is ever recycled, at most.

So what can we do? How can we turn that plastic into something useful so it doesn’t end up floating in the ocean or on a landfill?

The SUS 19 Bottle Backpack is made from 19 plastic bottles. It’s durable and hardworking, with pockets and zippers for carrying whatever you need. The SUS 19 Bottle Backpack is the affordable, sustainable backpack that has started to solve the plastic problem.

Let’s face the facts, plastic is SUS.

The SUS 19 Bottle Backpack is made from 19 plastic bottles that otherwise would end up in the gutter on your street.

Some hard facts about plastic:

1 million plastic bottles are used every minute, which comes out to a ridiculous 1.3 billion plastic bottles every day.
Plastic takes more than 500 years to decompose.
5% (or less) of items you put in the blue recycle box actually get recycled.

The landfills are overflowing. The oceans have floating islands of garbage. So let’s grab that plastic and turn it into something useful. Together, we can make a difference in cleaning up the plastic that is littering the streets.

How our SUS bag is made

First, thousands of plastic bottles are collected.

This condensed plastic is separated, sorted, and cleaned so there aren’t any other residuals.

That enormous pile of plastic is grinded and shredded into flakes or pellets which are then melted down into a uniform plastic base.

As it cools, the raw plastic is formed into strands something like very long spaghetti, except made of plastic instead of pasta. Once they cool and harden, the strands are cut into smaller uniform pieces.

Then, thread is made.

The thread is then wound together much like rope is made up of braided strands of thinner string. Then sewn into swatches of fabric for use.

That 100% recycled thread is then the basic material we use to stitch together to make the textiles that create a SUS bag.
