When we started 8000Kicks, we had one mission in mind, to disrupt the textile industries and show everyone it is possible to make great products by using eco-friendly fibers like hemp instead of other incumbent polluting ones. And that’s precisely what we have done by building a carbon neutral backpack.

We beat the s##t out of this bag, and it holds, so we can confidently promise your grandchildren they will have a hemp backpack to go hike with.

In case you are wondering what else we do with hemp, we can promise we don’t smoke it. Hemp is actually the sober cousin of “Marijuana”,  and it is definitely not for smoking.

One backpack to fit them all. Get them now on Kickstarter and save big bucks before we launch them on our website.

8000Kicks’ backpacks are made from industrial hemp, a sativa branch, known as the sober cousin of marijuana.   Industrial hemp has been used since 8000 BC, and its properties include being anti-bacterial, needing no fertilizers and almost no water to grow, it cleans and restores the nutrients in the soil, and it is also very durable. In fact, Hemp is so strong that Henry Ford even built a car out of it.   We are pioneers in the development of hemp and our goal is to bring back this powerful natural fiber and make hemp shoes and hemp backpacks mainstream.

Did you know hemp is so strong Henry Ford once built a car with it. It was 10x stronger than steel, and Henry Ford was so confident on the strength of the panel that he took an axe to hit the car. The axe, that would have cut through any steel panel simply bounced back.

It took us 4 months of samples and travel to find the right suppliers. We had to ensure that our material had the best strength while remaining flexible and durable.

Unlike cotton and many other fibers, hemp starts capturing CO2 from the moment its seeds hit the floor. For that reason, when we start the manufacturing process a lot of pollution has already been removed from the atmosphere. We are we also planting a tree for every order, making our backpacks 100% carbon neutral.

Besides being super strong, hemp is also very environmentally friendly. It consumes 3 times less water than cotton, and it has a minimal impact on the soil. Hemp is historically called “weed” for its fast-growing properties capable of restoring the nutrients in the soil. Funny fact: Hemp is being used in Chernobyl to clean the solid off radiation.

We are getting experts in two things, feet and hemp. After years of experience crafting hemp shoes, we have reengineered our fiber for extra durability and longevity. We work together with labs worldwide to test the fibers, yarn and fabric. All our hemp is subject to rigorous tests to ensure nothing but the best experience to our customers.

Resistance to tear and Bursting strength allow us to understand the quality of the yarn and its fibers. These series of tests are the most important and define the durability of our backpacks.

Abrasion tests are very important when testing a new fabric because they allow us to understand what kind of wear and tear the fabric will have in the future. Cheap fabrics will start opening wholes and cause bobbling or pilling.

Bending tests are crucial for our expandable top sleeve and make sure the backpack lasts a long time without opening cracks on the top fabric.

So what’s unique about our backpack? What stands it apart? We looked at what’s available in the market and made a generalistic comparison chart stacking multiple types of gear.

One design comes in 3 sexy colors, from the most discrete, to the most extravagant.

FOUNDING TEAM – A 77 year old and his grandson

One night, after a few beers and joints with the boys, someone came up with the idea of making a shoe for smoking. It was a 5-in-morning-kind-of-idea, or maybe not.

Bernardo, the co-founder, asked the most unlikely person for help: Otilia, his grandmother, with over 50 years’ experience in textiles. Together, they spent over 1 year actively working with suppliers from around the world until what is now the World’s 1st waterproof hemp shoe. 3 years later they are back for more… the world’s 1st waterproof hemp backpack.
