We use the exceptional Portuguese Craftmanship to build our unique sneakers
We stand for quality and fair working conditions
We are close to the people making your shoes. We visit them twice a week. We would not be able to live knowing that their working conditions weren’t fair. We decided to choose a factory in Portugal because we are proud of our origins and of our country’s shoemaking tradition that goes back to the romans. Also, this allows us to closely monitor working conditions – we can ensure that all human rights and labour laws are being met. Besides, being Portuguese and living close to the factory makes a big difference. We have been there many times and have realized that there are many employees who have family members working in the different departments of the factory. So it is a BIG FAMILY!
These are not just shoes, they’re your go to sneakers, the ones that will ease you into your day.
We know they will get better with time, the color will evolve in a beautiful way. We will love them and at some point we will wear them out. At that point we will repair them because you repair sneakers like these.
You will feel sorry you did not take more care of them.
Hirundo – Go Slowly, Go Green!
Hirundo was born out of the idea that through great craftsmanship it is possible to have light trainers made of traditional yet sustainable materials.
We created a sneaker with different color soles so that you could have a sole to mach your #mood.
We are fans of Kickstarter because it allows you to understand what are the new trends in each category. It also allows us to reach more people through one platform but most importantly, this Campaign will help us produce the actual demand, avoiding overproduction and encouraging a more responsible consumption.

2 – QUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is our way of doing things, it is not a trend, it is just the way we do our business because we believe that it is important for the wellbeing of our planet, the sector, and people – everything we do, we do it for the long-term.

- Carbon Neutral
We plant trees IN PORTUGAL for every shoe produced and we ensure that we plant enough that our whole operation is carbon neutral
- Sustainable leather, rubber and components
When sourcing our materials we wanted them to be local and sustainable. Unfortunately they are not perfect. But at Hirundo we believe sustainability is not about perfection but about commitment and consistency. We believe that with our action our suppliers will be able to improve their sustainability levels and that we will improve and learn with them.
- All materials sourced from a few hours drive from the factory
If you have everything next door, why go charter planes to bring in what you need?
- Certifications:
We only work with leathers that have been certified by the leather working group
In addition, Hirundo has obtained a “Carbon Neutral” and the prestigious “Pending B Corp” certification awarded to companies with less than 12 months operations.
3 – MATERIALS
For the last year we have been searching for the materials that represent what we wanted these sneakers to be. Sustainable, light weight, that age with grace.
This is what we came up with:
4 – PRODUCTION PROCESS
