In 2019 we launched RAKE to revolutionize mens swimwear, by combining fashion with functionality. Based on the reactions of our customers on our first, award-winning, RAKE shorts, we’re definitely on the right track! Our new shorts are an improvement in every way possible! Following the success of our first shorts, we’re excited to once again partner with a German industry-leader to bring you our latest innovation – waterproof pockets. We’ve teamed up with Fidlock, a renowned brand with over 25 years of experience in magnetic closures and a wide range of premium products. 

Our new waterproof pockets are a result of our combined expertise, offering superior functionality without compromising on style. Designed to withstand depths of over 100 ft (30 meters), these pockets have been tested extensively and adhere to an IPX8 rating.

Usability is at the core of our SnapSure closure. It works so well, you don’t have to think about it. You just have to hear that satisfying ‘snap’ to know your valuables are safe! Snap-snap lock, baby.

Gone are the days of having to chose between cargo shorts for practicality, and flimsy swimming shorts for the looks. RAKE is about looking good ánd feeling good. Now you can too. RAKE, problem solved.

You don’t need new swimming shorts every year! We believe in taking the seasonal nature out of swimwear, by staying away from trendy prints, or yearly collections. 

Instead, we aim to create timeless designs, that are also crafted to last for years. We’re acutely aware of the impact of fast fashion and part of our mission is to slow things down by creating exquisitely crafted, hard wearing shorts that you can wear for years to come.

To keep up with your active lifestyle, these shorts are made from extra sturdy 160gr/m2 polyester performance-fabric. The fabric is dyed on both sides, ensuring a deep and long lasting color that won’t fade away after just a few rays of sunshine and a wash. 

Whether it’s ‘Just Black’, ‘Very Cherry’, or ‘Pretty Mint’, all will fit great with anything you’d like to wear on top! And we didn’t just pick our colors out of any existing catalogue. No, we have gone through multiple rounds of prototyping and dying fabrics to get the right tints. This isn’t just high street material cut and sewn together into something new. This is bespoke craftsmanship that will stand the test of time.

Our new shorts are the result of meticulous design and attention to detail. We’ve paid close attention to both the exterior and interior of the shorts to ensure they look and feel great.

If there is something we hate about regular swimming shorts, it’s a rough, white, cheap looking mesh that you can already feel chafing just by looking at it. Our mesh, and the trimming of it around the legs, have been carefully designed for better comfort (and looks). It’s soft, hard wearing, and sits in just the right place.

Also, the waterproof pocket is enclosed in fabric. This will make sure you don’t feel anything sticking to your leg after getting out of the water (outside of accidental run-ins with jellyfish).

While it’s part of our DNA to make timeless designs, and steer clear from seasonal prints, we just couldn’t pass up on the chance to give the inside a subtle extra touch with the RAKE pattern. Quite the difference from those one-sided, see-through, prints on other swimming shorts, don’t you think?

First off all, thanks for making it all the way down here! We’re happy to have caught your attention on our Kickstarter page. We are Rogiér (left) and Bob (right), two childhood friends from the Netherlands. We grew up just a few streets apart in our countryside hometown (Lichtenvoorde). From sharing juice boxes in elementary school, to founding a company together: you could say we go way back.

And a few years later, we ended up becoming neighbors again, but this time in the ‘big city’: Amsterdam. And this is where RAKE was born, out of frustration we might add. While enjoying the sunny beaches of the Philippines we got tired of having to watch each other’s belongings while the other went for a swim. That frustration sparked an idea to come up with a better way.

Being neighbors made it easy for us to spend a lot of time designing and developing fashionable yet functional swimming shorts with a waterproof pocket. It didn’t take us long before we started making first prototypes- and didn’t take long to make all the rookie mistakes that come from asking “how hard can it be?”.

We found out the hard way that one of our first samples’ ‘lighter’ colorway didn’t end up covering much of Rogiér’s intimates after a swim for example, whoops.

Undeterred, after many more versions, trials, and a couple more failures, we got our first product launched. We created fans and advocates world-wide – And our new shorts are improved in every way possible. But.. we’re still just those two guys from the countryside, trying to make something cool, and sharing it with the world. And we really hope you want to become part of that journey!
