Meet Jeffrey and Picard: Two ambitious individuals with a shared passion for business, startups, and a good card game. Both of us, having dived deep into the realms of finance, markets, and the bustling world of startups, had a dream – to create a card game that brought the frenetic energy of the corporate world into the palms of your hands. Not just any card game, though; we wanted to encapsulate the sheer madness, the unexpected turns, and the absolute joy of getting things right in business. And of course, it had to be chaotically fun.

First Drafts

When we first envisioned what FRENEMIES INC. would look like, we wanted some core themes to revolve around betrayal, sabotage, bluffing, and backstabbing. The goal was to make a humorous, oftentimes satirical casual card game, but still broadly appealing in terms of its graphics. We wanted to lock in the theme of business with the two main characters being a Bull and a Bear – of course, the reason being is because of the history between these two animals in regards to business, Wall Street, and stock market investing.

Our first draft was interesting! It was really cute and captured some of our core elements quite well. Some would say perhaps a bit too cute… it was missing something, but otherwise we thought this was a great start!

Our second draft was admittedly a bit “out there”… I think these designs captured the emotions experienced throughout the game really well, but the blue and red colour schemes were perhaps too far from what we originally envisioned.

After so many revisions… we finally found something that nailed what we were going for! It’s still fun to imagine what Frenemies Inc. could’ve been like with some of these other designs, but we’re overjoyed with what we ended up choosing.

Our AWESOME final graphics – these were fantastic. It managed to capture all the raw emotions that players (and these characters) would feel throughout the game, as well just being as broadly appealing in terms of visuals as it could be. You’ll notice throughout pretty much all of our cards that these two characters are always involved in some way and oftentimes in a hilarious way. We’ve intertwined them with many awesome memes, pop culture references, and interested thematic scenes that align well with what we’ve been trying to build.
