“Why can’t I just buy a 100% Pure Wool sock – no plastic and made authetically in the UK?”

Finding authentic wool socks which are genuinely thick enough to keep the feet warm in the winter, whilst cool enough to use in the house or at work is incredibly difficult, independent of all the claims made. Most socks seem to be very thin and nearly all of them made from a combination of wool and synthetics. In addition to this, there seems to be no mention as to the purety of the wool or the welfare of the animals used to make the wool in the socks (we should, after all, at least look after the animals that keep us warm in the winter!)
Since I was a teenager, I have always had an interest in socks and how they are made. Seven years ago, I decided to look more closely at what made a truly good sock. I discovered that some of the best socks were made in the 1930s, before central heating, when people relied on well-made wool socks to keep their feet warm, especially in wintery nights. That discovery led me to buy my first sock machine — a 1930s sock machine made for the original UK textile mills. After several months learning how it worked, I realised it was incomplete. So in 2025, I found another machine, which was complete and of the same age. It had been stored in a garage for over 40 years and was dusty and neglected. With some time, care and restoration work, I brought it back to life. Today, I can make thick warm socks from pure wool, using authentic British-engineered machines.
Since then, I have brought a few more machines and restored them in order to ensure that these machines which once worked in our textile mills in Britain, can once again make the excellent socks they once did.

100% Pure British Wool
- Our socks are made from 100% tracable British Wool. This means that for every sock that you buy, you will know exactly which farm the wool has come from, making the wool sock traceable from farm to finish.
100% Authentically Made
- I personally run the sock machines to guarentee the quality and consistancy of the sock.
100% Eco Friendly
- 100% Biodegradable – All our wool socks are completely natural, with no plastic (ie no nylon, acrylic or other synthetics). When you have finished with the sock, it will naturally biodegrade without creating undesirable microplastics.
- Reduces waste – Sheep must be shorn for their health. If fleeces are thrown out, that’s unavoidable waste. Using wool turns an inevitable by-product into something useful.
- Supports farmers – Buying and using wool helps farmers cover shearing costs and makes sheep farming more economically sustainable.
- Better for the environment: Wool biodegrades naturally, unlike synthetic fibres that shed microplastics and persist for decades.
- Encourages local and circular economies -Using wool in our socks keeps resources in use rather than discarded.
High Performance
- Warm – Wool is warm, it naturally holds pockets of air which provides insulation to keep you warm. Given our socks are thick, heat is trapped much better.
- Breathable – Wool is excellent at wicking moisture away, allowing the body to naturally respire.
- Fire-resistant – Wool is naturally resistant to fire.
- Naturally odor-resistant – the moisture is quickly wicked out, thus keeping the sock dry. This means that it helps to prevent a warm moist environment which would otherwise encourage anaerobic bacteria causing odour.

- All our socks are 100% made in a Hebridian Island off the coast of Scotland…. by me.
- All the wool in our socks are 100% traceable back to the farm in the UK.
- The sock machines were authentically made in Leciester, UK
- Fully certified British Wool
