Around the world, people spend on average 4 hours and 37 minutes on their phones each day. That’s all your waking hours for two days out of a week – a whole weekend gone.
Survey shows most adults (67%) wish they spent less time on their devices, and the number is increasing. From tension headaches to losing sleep, it’s not hard to see why.
The issue is especially bad at night, when half report staying awake later than planned, stuck on their devices (source: Deloitte).


My partner Emma and I found ourselves scrolling for hours before bed. In the morning, we would shut off our phone alarm and immediately cave into more scrolling, our eyes barely open.
It set the tone for the rest of the day. We felt anxious without our phones. We weren’t sleeping well. Our neck felt cramped and eyes strained. More importantly, we were losing out on quality time with each other.
Something had to change. We agreed on an experiment – no phones allowed in our bedroom. This meant we needed to buy an alarm clock.
A gap in the market
We searched for a simple alarm clock with a few basic criteria:
· Small enough for our bedside table
· Relaxing sounds
· No unwanted light
· No app
We were surprised that out of millions of options in the market – this one didn’t exist.
It turns out we weren’t the only ones looking.
So I decided to build one, together with a top-notch team.





Tactile Controls
To make sure there’s no confusion when you’re half awake early in the morning or late at night, we made the buttons big, tactile, and simple.
E-paper watch face
To keep your circadian rhythm intact and help you fall asleep more easily, a high-quality e-paper display shows the time and menu navigation without emitting any blue light.
The frontlight can be completely turned off for a 100% zero light mode.
Nightlight
Whether you need to get out of bed at night or just want a soft, cozy light, we have a built-in nightlight to gently illuminate the room. The 2700 kelvin LED light emits a warm glow that’s warmer than a typical household light, making it feel extra cozy.
USB-C & Battery
You can count on the clock to sound off, no matter what. Habity clock is powered with a standard USB-C wall adapter. We’ve also added a backup battery that lasts between 48-24 hours. Even a power outage can’t make you miss your alarm.

Using calm sounds and light, this mode gently lifts you out of your slumber to begin your day.
Sounds
Say goodbye to harsh beeping. The clock has a wide range of calm and soothing wake-up tones, from subtle acoustic melodies to Tibetan singing bowls to nature sounds, and much more. We also made it easy to add new sounds in the future.
Gradual Light
Having light to wake you up in the morning makes a big difference, especially in dark winters. However, bedside wake-up lamps are often big, bulky, and difficult to setup.
That’s why we’ve added smart home connectivity. This small bedside clock can create a big, immersive sunrise effect before the alarm goes off by connecting to your smart home lights.
No smart home? No problem. The built-in nightlight can also automatically brighten up right before your alarm goes off.
Wake Up Time
It’s easy to customize your wake-up time. Have one alarm to go off at the same time every day, or set different times for each day of the week. Heavy sleepers can also choose to add a secondary alarm.
It’s okay to hit snooze, and we made it easy to do so. Press the big snooze button for some extra minutes in bed.

Disconnect for the day and relax your body & mind.
At your specified time, the clock will prompt you to wind down. It asks to start playing you one of the wind down soundscapes while slowly fading on the nightlight to set the scene for bedtime.
It’s a healthy reminder to put your screens away for the day. Use the wind down time for self-care, reading, hobbies, or simply getting ready for bed.

- Slow-burning camp fire
- Scientific sound frequencies to reduce overthinking & stress


Sounds to guide you into deep sleep
To make falling asleep easier, we added a range of soothing sounds to play throughout the night.
Select from more than 30 different sounds across multiple categories – all locally stored, so no wifi required. Our favorite is “rain on a tent.”
In addition to the pre-loaded sounds, we will periodically send out new sounds for you to enjoy – all without needing a subscription.

Unlike other brands on the market, we don’t believe you need a subscription in order to sleep better and wake-up on time.
The clock is built for you to own and keep private. All sounds are locally stored on the device, which means that no Wi-Fi or subscription is required.
You can choose to connect it to Wi-Fi to enable automatic time/date setting, smart home connectivity, software updates, and the ability to add new sounds wirelessly.

For the past year, we’ve been designing, developing, and testing prototypes. We have even partnered with a manufacturer that lives up to our requirements for quality and sustainability.
In May this year, we developed our first fully functional prototype with high quality 3D printing. This is as close to the final product as we can get at this point.
