Preserving 400 years of tradition, reimagined for the future.
Kuroe, in Wakayama, Japan, has been a center of lacquerware production for over 400 years. However, traditional lacquerware is often seen as fragile and unsuitable for modern dining.
GLASS JAPAN challenges this perception. By fusing glass with lacquer, we created the world’s first dishwasher-safe lacquerware plates—bringing the elegance of traditional craftsmanship into everyday use.

Behind GLASS JAPAN are lacquer artist Yoshihiko Fujii and designer Eri Inaba. Together, they blend centuries-old techniques with contemporary design, aiming to share “lacquerware for modern dining tables” with the world.
