In history, Jerrycan’s first used as military fuel containers during tragic WWII. We still use them as fuel containers in our daily lives.

No one can live without water.

UNICEF reports only 56% of the population has basic access to drinking water in Uganda, compared to 99% of those in “First World” countries like the United States. Even less than that, 17% of Ugandan people can drink water from safely managed sources. In some parts of Africa, jerrycans are daily necessities for the survival of the entire household.

Children in rural Africa still take distant and dangerous trips to bring home drinkable water from wells.

In Africa, children typically use 10kg jerrycans to transport water.  Children face extreme challenges while transporting water by walking without any assistance for an average distance of 6km (3.7mi) per day.

1. Children in pain.

They travel 6km (3.7 mi.) on an average day on foot and without any other equipment. Sustaining heavy jerrycans with their heads or hands takes a heavy toll on their necks and spines.

2. Children in danger.

There are usually no paved sidewalks, so they share the only road they have with cars. Small children are difficult for a driver to see, they can’t react quickly to approaching cars with jerrycans on their heads. They are always in danger of car accidents. And car crashes in Africa are 30% deadlier than the international average.

3. Educational Disadvantage.

Some children spend more than two hours a day just going back and forth to the well, making it hard for them to attend school.

Our team set out to tackle this problem more than seven years ago. We established sustainable design companies in Uganda’s capital Kampala in 2014 & U.S.A. California in 2018, to find a safer and more effective way for young African children to carry water-filled jerrycans.

We have produced more than 13,000 JERRYBAGs, backpacks for children under the age of to carry jerrycans easily, with the help of 16 Ugandan women so far, and delivered them to children in rural Uganda through NGOs.

*World Vision, Childfund, HoE (Hope is Education), IDI (International Development Institute) & Uganda Local NGOs are Jerrybag partners.

Still, there are more children out there in areas we haven’t reached yet in Uganda or other African countries.

Your awareness and participation can go a long way. This is why we are presenting Jerrycan Water Bottle for the first time in the world,  here on Kickstarter.  We ask for your support to spread the hopeful message of change for Ugandan children by using a water bottle that resembles jerrycans.

Jerrycan Water Bottle is available in two designs: 400 mL (13.5 oz.) with good portability and 800 mL (27 oz.) with a large capacity. Our design aims to preserve the motives of Africa jerrycans while emphasizing the message of hope and change and enhancing portability.

1. Bottle shaped to fit your hands

Jerrycan Water Bottle, your portable eco-friendly water bottle, has been designed to be easily carried with one hand. The slim design of a 400mL bottle with less than 20mm (0.8 in.) width is comfortable to carry even for children’s weaker wrists. The generous 800mL bottle is ergonomically designed with a slightly sunken front and back and a better grip at the edges.

2. Bottle that fits your pocket!

The smaller 400mL Jerrycan Water Bottle is extremely portable. It fits in your ordinary shirt pockets, pants pockets, and side pockets of bags.

3. Smartphone Mount

As we contemplate its functionality, we came up with a unique user-friendly feature for the bottles. Our creatively designed bottles have a smartphone cradle between the bottle cap and the handle, elevating your convenience.

Examples:

Think about all the possibilities. Our bottles will come in handy when you practice yoga following YouTube instructions or when you do a refreshing 5-minute stretching routine in your office. Maybe you would want to take selfies or videos when you are outside alone. You can even join an online business meeting while doing something on your computer.

4. Customizable antibacterial sticker packs

An antibacterial DIY sticker pack comes with the bottle, so you can always keep the stories in mind and customize it with your style hygienically!
