Reinventing Kava
Traditional kava is a proven mood-enhancer. But there’s a catch: it tastes like mud.
Brad spent 18 obsessive months in the lab, testing roots, flavors, and formulas until he cracked it: kava that still feels amazing but actually tastes good. We didn’t just mask the flavor. We reinvented it.

The Other Problem: Making It Water Soluble
Kava doesn’t play well with water. It separates, which is NOT what you want at the bottom of your can.
So we built our own process to keep it smooth, stable, and perfectly balanced — no sludge, no sediment, no compromises.
Every sip of Kavi is crisp and smooth.
Kava 101
What is kava?
Kava is a root of the plant in the pepper family. Mainly grown in the Pacific Islands (we get our kava from Fiji). It’s been safely used for 3,000 years. Traditionally kava is dried, ground up and then mixed in with water. The kava plant needs to grow for 4-5 years before being harvested.
Kavalactones
Kavalactones are the active ingredient in kava. It’s what makes you feel nice and relaxed. Each of the 6 main kavalactones have a different molecular makeup and have different effects.
Each strain of kava has a different mix of the 6 kavalactones. We’ve chosen the strain that maximizes the energizing and uplifting properties ☀︎
Then we added Mucuna ☀︎
Additionally, we added Mucuna Pruriens, also known as Velvet Bean. It contains naturally occurring L-Dopa, a dopamine precursor that’s been traditionally used to support mood and motivation. When paired with kava, it helps deliver a uniquely feel-good experience.

Meet the Founders
Brad (left) and Jesse (right) have been friends since 2008, when they met in San Francisco. Over the years, Brad founded multiple successful coffee ventures, while Jesse became an operations leader at publicly traded tech companies. Today, they’re combining their skills and their shared love of kava to bring you Kavi.
Brad’s Journey
On August 31, 2019, Brad took his last sip of alcohol. Quitting drinking gave him back his health and his life, but it also took away two things he deeply valued: the easy social connection of sharing a drink, and the relaxing feeling that came with it. During the pandemic, Brad discovered kava. For the first time, he found something that offered peace without chaos.
Jesse’s Connection
When Jesse was 19, he spent time in Fiji after a physically and mentally challenging six-month stretch. In Fiji, he was introduced to kava and found a small but powerful sense of calm and belonging.
