For years we’ve been hearing about uncomfortable shoes and discomfort when walking. So we thought: “how can we improve this?” The answer seemed to be rather simple. Improve the shoe – as so many companies are actively doing. But rather than looking at the shoe, as a whole, we figured that if we could just improve the insole we would have a more affordable, more sustainable and more comfortable way of improving movement. 

But one problem remained: insoles, just as shoes, wear out. Meaning they are just another item that will eventually end up on landfill. Over 100 million synthetic non-recyclable insoles get thrown away every year. And that’s not what we wanted. 

After hearing from within our own community* and searching ourselves, it was time to create our own natural, recyclable, affordable, door-delivered – but above all – extremely comfortable shoe insoles. Out of love for movement with comfort.

*As of May 1st, 70% of our questionnaire respondents stated that they would keep using an old pair of shoes if they could improve its comfort by acquiring high performance insoles (access the questionnaire with the link after you pledge or on our Instagram). 

PRIMAL Soles promotes movement, travel, exploration, the primal urge deep inside all of us to remain curious as a child. It also advocates for a healthier world. A more aware world where consumers and producers start taking more responsibility over the entire product life cycle. This is the reason why we made it PRIMAL’s goal to make the most comfortable, natural and recyclable insoles easily accessible to everyone. Because we believe that everybody deserves to move with comfort.

The Bananas Edition is ideal for your everyday sneaker or running shoe. It’s our lightest and thinnest sole providing instant grip due to its natural cork top layer. It has a smooth and soft bounce to it for your everyday comfort. It comes with a 3mm recycled cork/foam bottom layer, a 4mm anti-bacterial central foam layer and a natural cork footbed on top.

The Cortiças Edition is the ultimate support insole for intense sports or for people on their feet all day. The arch provides ultimate posture correction. It comes with a natural cork footbed on top, a 4mm anti-bacterial central foam layer and a 6mm recycled cork/foam bottom layer for soft yet firm support.

The Oatmilk Elite Limited Edition is the perfect blend between soft and bouncy, and high arch support. Slightly taller than the Cortiças, it makes for a great supportive insole in your everyday, office or dress shoes. Made from recycled cork/foam 6mm bottom layer, a 4mm anti-bacterial 100% recycled central foam layer, and natural cork top layer.
