VOYAY is lightweight (2.3kg / 5 lbs), crafted from waterproof nylon + leather trims, and designed to fit international carry-on sizes (yes, we tested personally!).

The Inception of VOYAY

The idea for VOYAY was born from our creator Irene’s personal frustration. She’s not exactly a light packer—whenever she travels, she finds herself juggling a carry-on suitcase in one hand and a checked suitcase in the other. That leaves her with no hands free to navigate Google Maps or pull out passports at checkpoints. 

Also, she enjoys tax-free shopping in the airports. The weekender bags she carries have no wheels that allow her to shop freely without having to carry multiple bags and feeling clumsy all the way to the flights. 

This made her wonder: why isn’t there a carry-on suitcase designed to stack on top of a larger suitcase, allowing travelers to go hands-free while navigating the world? And one that can be a substitute to bulky and heavy weekender bags. She searched the market, but nothing fit the bill. Bags were either bulky, lacking style, or poorly designed—and none were stackable.

Determined to solve the problem herself, Irene took matters into her own hands. From that frustration and vision, VOYAY was created.

Development Process

The journey of creating VOYAY begins with something as simple as a sketch. From that initial spark, we dive into the next step: finding the right suitcase factories. We share our early concepts, discuss possibilities, and request quotes for prototypes. What follows is a series of detailed, collaborative conversations with our factory in China, focusing on design, materials, and parts sourcing. We review photos of components and carefully select the elements that capture our vision, and we got our first prototype – TRAVER.

When the first prototype arrives, the real test begins. We take it on trips, navigating airports, train stations, and city streets, paying close attention to every detail—what works, what feels off, and what could be improved. Every handle, wheel, pocket, and strap is examined in real-world conditions. Design details are subsequently updated through notes, photo scribbles and meticulous measurements. With the data gathered, we go back to the factory for the next iteration of TRAVER, which becomes VOYAY.
