Normal down pillows tend to squish easier, as the head focuses on one spot, which means that while you’re sleeping, there tends to be a strain on the body.
Because of this, we have created our own design and specifications for a pillow!
A thoroughly thought-out triple-layered structure to help you sleep soundly.
Japanese futon craftsmen have thought in-depth about what will make a pillow give you a sound night’s sleep, and the result is the triple-layer structure seen in this pillow.
①Down Pillow
This upper layer has been made and adjusted many times over by craftsmen to make sure that the pillow makes it feels like it is enveloping you. It helps to bring your body in, and lets you remove all your power, meaning that you can relax to the max!
②Support Sheet
The middle layer that is the support sheet is made so that your body doesn’t sink in too much, and to do so, it utilises urethane foam which disperses pressure well. When you wake you will feel that the burden on your neck and shoulders has been reduced as it supports you.
③Bottom Pillow
The bottom layer is a polyester cotton pillow that helps to support your body weight while you sleep and supports the balance of your body as well.
Normal pillows:
・are prone to becoming flat when you use them
・sink too much which means it’s not the right height.
・focuses your head in one place, putting a burden on your body.
The Futon Pillow envelops everything from your shoulder blades to your head, and doesn’t focus all the pressure while you sleep in just one place, but disperses it throughout your upper body instead.
Normal pillows after being used for a long time tend to become flattened, and therefore means that the height decreases over time making it uncomfortable.
With our Futon Pillow’s triple-layer structure, the middle layer support sheet helps to keep it at the right height!
The low-resilience foam supports your head and upper body, giving you comfort and dispersing the burden around your upper body.

To make this a possibility to have every day we have created the Futon Pillow!
The Futon Pillow is filled with the thoughts and feelings of futon craftsmen who want to convey the techniques that are used to make Japanese down futons through pillows.
In fact, until now in Japan, down futons that aren’t used anymore are often incinerated.
Seeing this raw material that is said to have more than 50 years of life in being incinerated, futon maker REREX started operation of taking apart old futons to wash the down in it to recycle.
The recycling of down begins from collecting old used down futons.
After inspecting the quality of downs to be recycled, the dismantling of futons begins, removing the down feathers from the old futon.
The downs are then bagged according to its quality and placed into dedicated washing machines to be throughly washed before being blown dry.
For this Kickstarter Project, the Futon Pillow that we are making available is made using this recycled down as we wish to bring it to the wider attention of people!
From the cleaning of the down to the filling of the inner, and the finishing sewing last touches, each pillow is made by skilled Japanese futon craftsmen.
No Animal Odors
With normal down, unfortunately, the more you use it the more of an animal odour you can smell. This can eventually affect your sleep, and you may become a reason that you don’t want to use it.
When it comes to recycled down, because it is washed once, you won’t smell any animal odours!
For a Fluffier Feel!
Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture water is often called the Natural Water Jug as the area is surrounded by grand mountains.
At REREX, the recycled down is throughly washed with the natural water that is found in this region.
By washing the down, the broken feathers are restored and the function of the down, such as the heat retention and moisture absorption, is revitalised.
This means that the down is reborn as specially fluffy recycled down!

Before Use
●Please try the pillow first for 5-10 minutes
●When using the pillow, if your back or neck starts to hurt, then please stop using it.

How to care for the pillow
・Washing
●The Futon Pillow can be washed in a washing machine.
●Please open up the Futon Pillow and remove the support sheet before washing.
●When washing the Futon Pillow, please select a course that is softer, such as wool washes, or delicate washes.
●Please set the time for removing water at a low setting.
●For those that own a washing net that can hold the Futon Pillow, please use it to wash the pillow.
・Drying
●Please do not use a dryer to dry the Futon Pillow.
●After washing and before drying, please shape the pillow into a uniform shape. When washed and the water is removed, the inner filling may have become uneven so please reshape.
●Please make sure you dry the pillow in a well-ventilated and shaded place.
When using
●Please don’t leave in direct sunlight for a long time.
●Keep away from fire and high temperatures.
●Because of the characteristics of the pillow, the filling of the pillow may become uneven. Please reform the pillow by hand if this happens.
