The Tasman: The Recycled Dutch Oven & Grill
Check on Kickstarter

At Crowd Cookware, we’ve been working on chef-grade cookware with the goal of transforming the cookware industry. With our Tasman we’ll be taking this transformation to a new level of innovation. By producing a recycled Dutch Oven & Grill without digging one single piece of iron.

The Tasman is dishwasher safe, though handwashing is recommended to last for generations. It is easy to clean, most messes just need a gentle soak and scrub for a smooth finish.

The Tasman is made from the highest quality recycled cast iron, with a tough and functional design.

Our Dutch oven & grill is incredibly strong, an unbelievable allrounder and ready to be used every day. Carefully designed, tested and approved by our Crowd.

And that’s not even the best part.. our Tasman comes disguised as a Dutch oven, but is actually two pans in one. And all for a fair price.

We choose to work with recycled materials, so together we eliminate piles and piles of scrap metal. That’s why the Tasman is made from old polluting cars, among other things. This is how we can make our Dutch Oven & Grill without mining one single iron ore. It comes packaged in a biodegradable cardboard box, that is also used as a shipping box so we save 50% on packaging materials.  This is our way of making an impact.

These times, ‘green’ claims are often easily made. We are determined on saying what we do and doing what we say. Therefore, Crowd Cookware will be working with SCS Global Services, leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification.

We are quite proud that we will review our entire materials chain, in order to fully comply with the rather ambitious UL2809 recycling certification.

In just over 3 years, Crowd Cookware evolved into a worldwide community of kitchen enthusiasts creating their own chef-grade cookware for a fair price.

Thanks to frequent feedback moments, we come up with new products together, such as the Blackbeard pan set, the Wigbold knife set, the Buccaneer and now the Tasman.

Creating cookware with our crowd is all about translating feedback into new products or actual changes to the final designs. We believe this is the way to create great cookware together. Our backer Eric from Canada even came up with the name of our Tasman. We absolutely love it!

Not only Robbin, Pieter and Candace gave valuable feedback, also thousands of backers like you helped us design the Tasman. A big thanks to everyone who contributed!

To truly honor our heritage, we didn’t want to ‘remake’ the classic Dutch Oven. We wanted to reinvent it. That’s why we designed our Dutch Oven with a stand-alone grill pan lid. Our grill pan is made from the same premium recycled cast iron, with high-quality enamel for the best non-stick grilling experience. Resulting in perfectly grilled tuna steaks, pineapple slices or lamb chops.

Rather get the traditional knob-style lid? No panic: you can pre-order both styles.

The strong 3 layers of enamel coating prevent chipping, scratching and cracking. The Tasman contains a mineral-based non-toxic enamel coating that won’t intermingle with your clean ingredients and is, therefore, better for the environment.

Enameled cast iron cookware retains heat and creates a uniform heat distribution across the pan.

A recurring request from our crowd was to finally make a Crowd Cookware Dutch Oven. This cast iron pan is called a ‘Dutch Oven’ all over the world. Because we are also from the Netherlands, it really feels like our heritage ;-).

The Dutch invented the technique of casting iron in sand molds to make big pots and pans. These so-called Dutch ovens were used on open fires and stoves. They’re built for a lifetime of toughness. Just like our Tasman.

This eco-chic pan is not only aesthetically pleasing, it has 6-in-1 cookware functionality and non-stick sorcery. This kitchen staple can fry, sauté, steam, grill, and boil. The only thing it doesn’t do is cook the food for us.

As a nod to our entire Crowd Cookware collection (and crowd ;-), we have integrated our trademark honeycomb into the handle on our traditional lid and the handles on our Tasman.

It’s available in two colors, chosen by our crowd. And we even left our favorite phrase on the lid,  YES WE PAN.

Funny sidenote: did you know that the studs at the bottom of such a traditional lid, are specifically made to ensure that the drops of condensation during cooking, ‘leak’ evenly across the pan?

Because we create our chef-grade cookware at the request of the crowd, develop our products together and kickstart with a crowd of thousands of backers, we can put top-notch factories to work on our own terms. Because of you we can deliver chef-grade cookware for a fair price. Thank you so much!
