OtterSpace: Blackout curtains that block ALL light.

Sleep in the dark with our patent-pending blackout curtain design. 

Babies, children, adults (and even pets) sleep best in a completely dark room. However, most blackout curtains are not able to sufficiently block out all light around the edges of the curtains. These light bleeds can lead to early wakeups at the first sign of sunlight in the morning, as well as short naps for young kids during the day.

Our patent-pending blackout curtains are able to completely block all sunlight from a window, are easy to install using discreet, damage-free hardware, and can easily be opened to let in sunlight during the day. The blackout layer is portable and can be removed for travel and the outer design panel can also be swapped out anytime with one of our exclusive designs (which will be updated seasonally on our website).

We wanted our curtains to block ALL of the light, but not all of your style.

We have a variety of solid colors and print options for the outer curtain panel for everyone (babies, toddlers, and adults). 

The outer panels were purposely designed to be separate from the blackout layer, allowing for the ability to swap out designs or colors anytime! 

We don’t want aesthetics to get in the way of a good night’s sleep. Keep the blackout layer and blackout blocks and easily swap out the outer panel for another one of our exclusive designs or solid colors.

We chose soft OEKO-TEX 100-certified fabric for our curtains. So you can expect high-quality, non-toxic, beautiful curtains that are actually enjoyable to open and close.

Our blackout fabric is OEKO-TEX 100 certified and completely woven for a blackout effect. No coatings, toxic chemicals, smells, or flame retardants. Just a soft and gorgeous material that will block all light. 

We designed the blackout layer to be removable so you can easily take it with you for travel.  

At 1.5 lbs for the 50″ x 95″ length panel, you can easily pack it in your bag or suitcase along with the small blackout blocks (or suction cups). We include separate travel window plates so you don’t have to remove the ones you use at home – or you can pre-order a suction cup option (either can be used for travel). 

Use the blackout layer with or without a curtain rod. It will block all light either way as long as there is at least one inch of fabric overhang around the edges. 

Using the blackout layer alone is also great for renters or anyone who doesn’t want to install a curtain rod.

Our blackout curtains work well to block out most of the light when used as traditional curtains. They work REALLY well when pairing them with the blackout blocks and will block all the light bleeds from around the curtain – providing a completely dark sleeping environment. 

We designed the blackout blocks to be:

•  Non-damaging and removable 
•  Discreet (the blocks hide between the curtain layers and the window plates blend in with your window) 
•  Adjustable on the blackout curtain layer to fit any window size 
•  Portable 

They are also quick and easy to install:

After they are installed, the blackout blocks will stay attached to the blackout layer until you want to remove them. Magnetically connect them to the corresponding window plates to block all light bleeds, or pull them away and push the curtains aside to allow light into the room.

We include 4 sets of blackout blocks and 4 window plates with each blackout curtain panel. Depending on the size of your window and the length of the curtain you may only need to place two window plates on the top of your window. However, some windows may require the additional two window plates to be placed at the bottom of your window to completely seal out the light from the bottom of the curtains.  

Window Plate placement:

Need to move the curtains to another window? No problem. Just slide the blackout blocks off the blackout layer and reposition them so they align with the new window size. 

The discreet window plates also stay firmly in place until you remove them – however, the adhesive is removable and non-damaging.  We will include an extra set of window plates and adhesive for travel so you don’t ever have to remove the ones you have in place at home.

We also have a patent-pending suction cup option that is compatible with the blackout blocks. We prefer to use adhesive blackout blocks. However, these suction cups are a great backup if you prefer to not have to remember to have extra adhesive on hand when traveling! 

Window plates will be available in black, white, or beige to match the color of your window frame. 

We will offer three curtain lengths to choose from to fit your needs and window sizes: 63″, 84″, and 95″ in length. 

Each panel is 53″ wide and can cover approximately a 50-inch wide window (allowing for an inch or two at each side to block all the light).   

Our curtains are made to LAST! We will be creating a sustainable marketplace where preloved curtain panels can be bought and sold to be loved again in another home. This keeps our curtains out of landfills and allows retired designs and colors to be passed on and enjoyed for years to come.
