After the successful campaign of our Gale VS jacket last year, which received overwhelming support from our backers and raised over $140,000, our community spoke up and asked for a 4 season version. We listened and took in feedback for a year, putting in countless hours of design and testing to come up with the Gale ACT Puffer collection.

Our insulated jacket is tough on frost but kind to nature.

This is a prototype sample.

Best For:

Problems with today's puffer jackets

Puffer jackets have been around since the dawn of time, but they still have three major problems that persist to this day:

  • Clumping of insulation, especially after washing, making you look like you are wearing a sack of potatoes.
  • Weak construction with low-quality trims, breaking up seams, and zippers along with your travel plans.
  • Cheap fabric quality that leads to a stuffy jacket with feathers poking out

We’ve all experienced them, and we’ve all wished for a solution. That’s why we developed the Gale ACT Puffer.

This look will cost you $320!

3M’s Revolutionary Insulation:

Are you tired of washing your jacket, only to find the insulation has clumped up like a group of friends at a party, leaving you out in the cold??

Introducing 3M’s Flowable Featherless Insulation.

We utilize this technology (released only 6 months ago) in our jackets, which has some groundbreaking features that will revolutionize the next generation of puffer jackets and how we keep ourselves cozy all year round.

Flowable Insulation

Seadon’s Dual-Tex Mapping (DTM):

Our Gale ACT Jackets are designed to tackle the age-old problem of stuffy, uncomfortable insulated jackets.

That’s where our dual-tex mapping comes in, which is just a fancy way of saying we use two different fabrics for the outer shell and inner layer.

Our unique dual-tex mapping technology
You will get to vote on the color of the inside fabric. Please read ‘Style and Colors’ section below for more detail.

The outer layer is made of heavier-duty nylon to keep the elements out, while the inner layer is made of lighter and softer nylon that lets your body breathe.

But we don’t stop there. We’ve also mapped the 10D fabric and insulation to target specific heat zones on your body – like your back where a backpack would go, or your underarms where heat tends to get trapped – to regulate your body temperature and keep you feeling comfortable all day long.

World class breathability rating of 25,000 g/mm2

With the combination of our 3M Flowable insulation and breathable fabrics, you can take on any season with ease.  You’ll feel like you’re wrapped in an invisible blanket that protects you from the cold, while also allowing you to breathe freely. Whether it’s hot or cold outside, the Gale ACT Puffer has got you covered.

Style and Colors:

PLEASE NOTE: We are currently deciding whether to make the inside fabric a different color than the outer shell. If you decide to back this project, you will be sent a short survey to vote for your preference. We will decide based on the most votes and update on the 30th of May.

We don’t have names for our colors yet. Help us name them by commenting above! If we pick your name, we’ll include a free Merino baselayer in your pledge!

The Merino SF100 is a solid base layer to pair with the Gale ACT Puffer. Not all Merino wool is created equal and if you have tried our signature Merino wool + Tencel blend before from the ‘Traveler’ range, you will enjoy this 100% Superfine Merino Wool version, designed to be warmer and even more durable while maintaining the same 150g lightweight property.

Full Specs | How Do We Compare?

A breakdown of this chart is explained below, so please scroll down if you prefer not to go through this comparison chart.

Comparison chart
Based on a men’s size M.

The Breakdown:

The Gale ACT jacket weighs roughly the same as today’s lightest jackets available,  with only a 30-70g difference- roughly the weight of one or two slices of bread!

But our jacket has:

  • Two types of unique fabrics, instead of one
  • Two more pockets with gear loops
  • Almost twice the insulation in weight with a higher loft
  • 200% increase in warmth without feeling stuffy

And with our Kickstarter VIP prices (from $179), our jackets are $81 – $170 cheaper than the ‘best of the best’ insulated jackets on the market today.

Experience warmth that’s out of this world, but not out of your budget.

Why Choose The Gale ACT?

Bulky or thin? Neither. The Gale ACT offers the perfect balance of warmth, weight, and value. It’s a jacket that is ready for anything, every day.

Tested in Nepal. Sun, Wind, Snow and dusty conditions.

‘March has a reputation amongst the Sherpas for being colder than December at night, so what better way to take on one final challenge and put the Gale ACT through the wringer?

Even though we were caught in an unexpected blizzard on the day of the high pass, the Gale ACT surpassed all benchmarks under those extreme conditions- 45mph wind + 77°f (-25°c) combo is no joke, especially above 17,000ft (5,000m) high with complete whiteout conditions.

After 7 hours of non-stop snow, you can see the outer shell was mostly unaffected with only minor dampness around the shoulder area. This was to be expected when compressed with a 15kg backpack. If this was a down jacket, I would have been in deep trouble once the down was soaked through and unable to insulate.

With the Gale ACT, my body temperature was well-regulated in both static and active states and I did not have to take off or add additional layers.

4 layers were tested – our new lightweight Merino wool baselayer (more details in upcoming update), an active fleece (in R&D mode), our ultralight Gale VS jacket (from our previous campaign), and the Gale ACT puffer.

Rarely would anyone go through a blizzard wearing a down or insulated jacket as their main outer layer, but in the name of Kickstarter, I mean science…it was worth it!

In terms of testing, this is as real as it gets.’ -Carson, Founder.

Not only can the Gale ACT handle the extreme with its technical materials, but it is designed to be traveled in, with its packability and our unique internal dump pockets with gear loops:

A simple yet effective solution to organizing your travel essentials and more.

With Limitless Configurations:

Perfect For Traveling

We’ve always wanted a better storage system within our pockets, so we don’t have to do the ol’ rummaging around and actually find what we are looking for quickly. Also, separating items such as your precious sunglasses from coins or pens bashing around in the pocket can be a lifesaver…for the glasses.

Two Packing Mode:

Fishing equipment, also known as ‘ghost gear‘, is the most deadly form of marine plastic debris, and there is A LOT of this material floating in our oceans today. We take this material and turn it into our trailblazing and ocean-cleaning Sunsail™ ACT fabric.

Step 01: Net collection. We work with our reputable recycling company to recover discarded nylon fishing nets proactively sourced from the ocean (ghost nets), aquaculture operators, and the fish industry.

Step 02: Purify. Actualise. Collected nets of all sizes, weights, and colors are purified and radically regenerated back into original, pure nylon.

Step 03: Threads count. Regenerated nylon is reworked into our highest-quality, all-terrain yarn; with a few SEADON secrets weaved in to enhance its technical properties.

Step 04: The right knit. Our skilled fabric partner has developed a unique SEADON knitting technique based on our stringent performance requirements: ultralight, dynamic stretch, silky-soft feel, durability, and aesthetically A1.

Did you know it takes more than 1000 years before a plastic bag starts to break down in the landfill? Something’s gotta change.

Since the beginning, we have been shipping plastic-free using our FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) recycled kraft mailer. That means we are not even cutting down new trees to produce our recycled kraft mailer bags since the material is from a recycled source. No trees were harmed in the making of Seadon’s packaging.

On the outside, we don’t like to take ourselves seriously. This is because we are serious all the time when it comes to our R&D process.

We can’t share all of our secret sauces here since our competitors are most definitely watching (I see you!), but we believe this process is what sets us apart from the others here on Kickstarter in the apparel sector. The proof is always in the pudding.
