Check on Kickstarter

We are TA+d, a group of designers who are enthusiastic about writing instruments. We are grateful that our idea of bringing natural elements to daily life is appreciated by the market, as well as the juries of international rewards. We also launched and well fulfilled a Kickstarter project – ONE 3 Pen earlier in 2021. In the past few years, we’ve been exploring innovative possibilities to bring traditional craftsmanship and modern stationery together.

In 2019, we were fortunate to learn about bamboo weaving craft and decided to opt in this established and fascinating tradition of Taiwan. We were honored to collaborate with the leading bamboo artist Qiu Jin-Duan, who has 30 years of artisan experience and unique insight into this field. Together with Qiu, we create the WEAVE ink pen collection that features one-of-a-kind handweaving bamboo texture.

The result was satisfying. Carrying passion and positive feedback from the users, we decided to collaborate with the artist for the second time. As the handcrafted part of each product needs tremendous effort from the artist, WEAVE 2.0 is curated as a special collection that offers limited 150 bamboo weaving ink pens. Each product is unique and carries the warmth of the natural material and authentic handweaving technique. Taking advice from the users, we are also adding new color and size options for the nib.

As the aluminum alloy pen tube meets the high standard of meticulous writing instruments, the tender, woody texture of hand weaved bamboo patterns offers an unparalleled writing experience. Tenacity, strength, and flexibility are spirits that WEAVE wants to bring to you. We hope that with a piece of nature in hand, inspiration would flood in with grace and vitality.

From a kid running in bamboo woods to an award-winning artist with three decades of authentic craft experience, Qiu Jin-Duan has a life intertwined with bamboo profoundly. Qiu was born and grew up in Zhushan town in Taiwan, a town known for its bamboo culture and tradition.

She was first amazed by the variety and beauty of bamboo weaving in 1922 and decided to dive into the craft world. Apprenticed with the deceased master Huang Tu-Shan, Qin embodies the spirit and philosophy of traditional bamboo art, along with her own creativity.

Bamboo is a sustainable substance with high breathability and hygroscopicity. After only 3-4 years of growth, it is ready to be cut and used. The more it gets cut regularly, the better it grows. Resonating with the nature of regeneration of the plant, Qiu believes that the art of bamboo weaving needs constant evolution to thrive.

Throughout the decades, Qiu has been developing new patterns and exploring different forms to present bamboo weaving art. Her work not only is known in Taiwan, but also participated in international exhibitions abroad. Her current collaboration with TA+d sparks innovation, finding harmony in the natural fibers and metal, bringing craft and design together.

WEAVE uses the best quality Maniko bamboo from Taiwan, which has high density and toughness. The most exquisite part of the bamboo is sliced off in the thickness of 0.18 mm and processed in traditional handcraft techniques.

With the finely processed bamboo strips, Qiu applied the cross stitch handweaving technique on the slim pen barrel in a diameter of 11 mm. It required a great amount of time, skill, and concentration for the artist to create the bamboo cover of each pen, bringing out a smooth, leather-like woven texture.

Made by Taiwanese master ink pen producers with over 30 years of experience and international exposure. WEAVE uses lightweight aluminum alloy and the pen weighs 32 g, which doesn’t cause fatigue after a long period of writing.

The inner counterweight design of the WEAVE makes the pen lean slightly forward naturally when you are writing. The ergonomics tilt helps you control the pen more effortlessly in different writing positions.

The right nib is essential to a good ink pen, allowing you to write or draw smoothly and effortlessly on paper. After testing the writing experience with many ink pen experts and designers, we chose to use the stainless steel nib by SCHMIDT for WEAVE.

We provide two color options (Stainless Steel Blank/Shiny Gold) and sizes (F/M) for you the pick from. You may choose to upgrade the original stainless steel nib to the gold plated version in the add-on session.

Each WEAVE fountain pen comes with an ink cartridge (black) and an ink converter.

Beneath the round shape of the pen barrel, the meticulous heptahedron design not only makes you feel more comfortable when holding it, but also prevents the pen from rolling off out of your sight.

Always having a pen in reach is vital to creators. The deep carry clip makes it super easy to take your WEAVE pen with you anytime, anywhere. The ideal length of the clip is suitable for notebooks or chest pockets. You can be ready whenever inspiration hits!

WEAVE Rollerball Pen

In addition to the classic fountain pen version, we also provide WEAVE rollerball pen for you to choose from. It contains a refill, coming along with a spring and an adjuster that accepts universal ballpoint pens refills.

WEAVE Rollerball Pen is assembled with the SCHMIDT 5888F refill. But you may change it with your own rollerball refills or ballpoint refills by using the spring and adjuster.

To parallel the bamboo artisan spirit of the pen, we designed the packing with great care. The thick paper box has a hidden magnetic button, and inside you will find the smoked bamboo pen holder that possesses a sedate, pure character. We hope that the pen set brings the full nurturing spirit of bamboo to your creativity.
