DustToPage: Beautiful Journals Made from Stone, Not Trees

Written by

Hand-bound journals with silky, water-resistant pages pressed from reclaimed marble dust.

These pages started as marble dust.

We transform reclaimed marble and limestone waste into remarkably smooth, water-resistant pages.

THE PROOF

Spill on it. Keep writing.

“She spilled an entire glass of water on her diary mid-meeting. The page didn’t even wrinkle.”

— Early DustToPage user

Coffee, chai, rain, a leaky water bottle in your bag. Ordinary paper warps and bleeds. Stone paper is water-resistant, so a spill gets wiped off instead of ruining months of notes.

And every page began as stone waste. We take marble and limestone dust that would otherwise be dumped outside stone-processing units and turn it into something you’ll actually want to fill, keep and give.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

Four things you’ll notice:

01. Silky-smooth to write on

The pressed, calendared surface is even and fibre-free, so pens glide.

02. Water-resistant pages

Spills and rain don’t wrinkle or disintegrate the page. Wipe it dry and carry on.

03. Stronger than paper

More tear-resistant than ordinary paper, so pages don't fray, loosen or fall out with everyday use.

04. Hand-bound in India

Each journal is bound by hand and wrapped in a printed fabric cover, so it feels like a keepsake from the very first page.

WHAT CREATORS ARE SAYING

Tested by journalers we trust

We sent DustToPage journals to real people and asked them to use them the way they really would.

How it's made: three steps, no trees, no water in the papermaking

01 – Reclaim: Leftover marble and limestone powder is collected directly from stone-processing units in India, material that would otherwise be dumped as waste.

02 – Bind: The powder is combined with 20% recycled plastic waste, which gives the sheet its flexibility, water resistance and strength. No water is used at this stage.

03 – Press: The mixture is pressed and calendared into smooth, opaque, water-resistant sheets, then cut and bound into journals in India.

THE MATERIAL

Paper that starts as marble dust, not a tree

Every year, stone-processing units produce mountains of leftover marble and limestone powder. Most of it ends up as waste. We reclaim it.

Our pages are about 80% calcium carbonate from reclaimed marble and limestone dust, bound with about 20% recycled plastic. That binder is what holds the sheet together and gives it strength and water resistance.

THE PROBLEM WE’RE SOLVING

It looks like snow. It’s marble slurry.

Cutting and polishing marble produces slurry: a wet paste of ultra-fine stone dust and water. When it’s dumped in the open, it dries into white plains so striking that people travel to take photos there, mistaking them for snowfields. Researchers call one of these sites a “toxic tourist destination.”

Behind the view is real damage. In Kishangarh, Rajasthan, a single dumping yard of about 350 acres takes slurry from more than 1,200 marble-cutting units, and India’s National Green Tribunal has taken up the case.

LAND — Fine particles settle on surrounding farmland.
AIR — Dried slurry becomes airborne dust.
WATER — Runoff can affect surrounding groundwater.

Every DustToPage journal turns that dust into pages.

OUR HONEST NOTE

Not zero-waste, and here’s why

We’d rather tell you than have you find out. The 20% recycled-plastic binder is what holds each sheet together, so DustToPage isn’t zero-waste. What it is: a journal made mostly from reclaimed stone, with no trees cut, no bleach and no water used in the paper making.

When you’ve filled it, send it back. Worn journals can go through plastic recycling programs, or you can return them to us through our take-back program and we’ll recycle them.

How the take-back program works

1. Request a return: Email hello@dusttopage.com with your backer number.

2. We send instructions: US backers: we email a prepaid label. Other regions: you cover postage, or we share a local recycling option.

3. We recycle it: Returned journals go to our recycling partner. Fabric covers are reused.

Available from: March.

If you would rather recycle locally, stone paper can go through plastic recycling programs where available.

From dust to page. From your hands to your story.

What begins as discarded stone can become a place for ideas, sketches, plans, memories and everything you haven't written yet.

Beautifully made. Hand-bound in India. Pages made mostly from reclaimed stone.
