Bonjour,
French reader? We have a page just for you.
En français, s’il vous plaît

Meet La Boréale

Sunlight to wake you up. Firelight to wind down. La Boréale is a magnetic and flexible light that follows the sun from morning to night, all by itself.

Set your wake and sleep hours once. It takes care of the rest.

Shape it your way

Bend it, snap it, stick it. La Boréale adapts to your home, not the other way around. Curve it around a mirror, run it under a kitchen cabinet or along a bookshelf: soft silicone segments bend by hand, magnets connect them in a click, and the adhesive backing holds them anywhere. Need it shorter? Cut it. Longer? Add a segment.

Soft silicone that bends with your space. Run it straight under a shelf, curve it around a mirror, or let it follow the edge of a table.

Segments snap together magnetically. No wires to strip, no tools: bring two ends close and voilà!

Look for the grey marks along the bottom: you can cut it every 5 cm (2 in) to fit your furniture exactly. A silicone end cap closes it cleanly.

Peel, press, plug. Gorgeous lighting has never been this easy.

Sunlike light

For thousands of years, the sun set the rhythm of our days: soft and golden at dawn, bright at noon, warm again at dusk.

Today, we spend around 90% of our time indoors (YouGov for Velux), under light up to 100 times dimmer than daylight. La Boréale follows the sun’s arc for you: it rises at your wake-up time, reaches bright sunlight at midday and turns to firelight before bed.

Most lights give you one fixed white. La Boréale moves continuously from 1,800 K, the color of a candle flame, to 5,800 K, close to the midday sun, and back again, all day long.

Up to 1,395 lumens per segment, bright enough for a kitchen worktop. A color rendering index of 90 to 95, so skin, wood and food look the way they should. And it’s flicker-free: the LEDs are driven 20,000 times per second, far beyond what your eyes, or your phone’s camera, can catch.

Inspirations

La Boréale can be a reading light in the bedroom, a worktop light in the kitchen or a soft halo around the bathroom mirror.

A gentler bonjour than any alarm clock.
At the time you choose to wake up, the light slowly rises over 30 minutes, like a sunrise in your bedroom. In the evening it fades gently over the two hours before bedtime, until it’s time for bonne nuit.

How it works

Tell La Boréale your wake-up time, bedtime and city once, over Bluetooth. From then on it follows the sun by itself, and the button on the base is all you need day to day. No Wi-Fi, no account needed, no subscription.

Once La Boréale is set up, the button turns it on or off. It can also temporarily override the automatic sequence and switch to manual mode with a double-tap.

The free laqi app (App Store and Google Play) allows you to switch to manual mode whenever you like and pick your own brightness and warmth.

Better yet, fine-tune your automatic scene: choose how low the light goes at night, so your evenings feel exactly as soft as you like.

We know, we know: a little déjà vu with magnets again. But that click… ooh la la. Snap a second segment on, and the light carries on as if it had always been one piece.

The team

A small French team with a lot of savoir-faire, covering hardware, firmware, the app and production, from the first sketch to your door. La Boréale is assembled in France, with its electronic board made in Annecy. Joff also shares the science behind light on his YouTube channel: youtube.com/@joffturner.

Our first Kickstarter ended in January 2024, backed by 227 people who believed in a small French team with a big idea. Together, we took our prototype all the way to a finished product, now lighting homes across the world.
And if you were one of those first backers reading this: thank you.

This time is different: La Boréale is ready to be made. The design is final, the prototype works, and no further R&D is needed.

Award winning light

Since 1901, the Concours Lépine has been France’s most famous inventors’ competition. Every spring in Paris, hundreds of inventors present their creations to a jury of engineers and industry experts. Over the decades, it has seen the first steps of the ballpoint pen, the steam iron and contact lenses.

In 2026, La Boréale won a silver medal at the fair, for its magnetic, modular and sunlike design.

These reviews are about our first product, the laqi bulbs, which follow the same daily light cycle as La Boréale.

The earlier you join, the more you save: up to 40% off for one Boréale, 50% off when you take five for the whole home. Shipping is fixed and added at pledge, no surprises later. Outside the EU, import duties and taxes may apply, depending on your country.

Pay in 3, no fees
You can split your pledge into 3 interest-free payments: the first when the campaign ends, then one a month. It’s offered at checkout by Kickstarter, nothing to sign up for. Backers paying over time are shipped once their last payment is collected.

In the box

Segments rated to last over 50,000 hours, guaranteed 5 years.
The base is guaranteed 24 months.

Each space has two modes. Autonomous follows the sun on its own. Custom lets you set the light yourself, for a dinner, a film or a late night of reading.

In Autonomous mode, you choose when your day starts and ends. Your morning sunrise can take 15 minutes to an hour; your evening fade, 30 minutes to two hours. Early riser in the bedroom, night owl in the living room? Each space keeps its own rhythm.

A double tap on La Boréale's button allows you to switch between the two modes without looking at your phone.

Thank you

Thank you for reading this far!
We’re so happy to finally share La Boréale with you.

Merci,
La laqi team
