The fiberglass carbon fiber hybrid design of the FoxFIRE ZX280 Tenkara rod is not like any tenkara rod you have ever fished. It is mostly made of beautiful transparent new age S-GLASS fiberglass but it also incorporates a blend of carbon fiber and fiberglass for the tip sections to create the perfect short tenkara rod. And with its multi-length zoom sections you can fish it at three different lengths (9.3ft, 8ft, or 6.6ft) to match your tight fishing quarters.
So if you are ready for a short tenkara rod that casts like a dream without sacrificing strength and durability, then this rod is for you.
Or if you just want to experience the joys of casting and using a fiberglass rod tenkara-style, then this beautiful outside-of-the-box rod design is also for you.
The Problem With Most Very Short Carbon Fiber Tenkara Rods
- Usually a brisker casting flex, not easy to cast weightless lines.
- If they are a soft action rod, they are also usually weak and lack durability.
- Not enjoyable to cast short lines.
- Many lack a proper cork handle and can fatigue your casting hand.
- Many are not even tenkara rods but fixed-line bait fishing rods re-purposed for tenkara fishing.
The FoxFIRE Tenkara Rod Design Overcomes All These Problems To Create The Perfect Very Short Tenkara Rod
Soft Casting Action Casting
Fiberglass material allows this rod very flexible, even for such a short rod. This rod does not require the weight of a line to load, so you can cast any light (or heavy) line you want on it with ease. Because of the soft action, it does not take a lot of movement to get the rod to cast properly. The carbon fiber blend in the tip sections allows for low oscillation tip recovery when casting.
Great Durability & Strength
Fiberglass is very durable. It does not easily get weak spots from dings like carbon fiber does. It also stretches a lot more than carbon fiber so when a decent fish pulls hard it just flexes more to cushion the strain.
3 Lengths In One Rod, To Cover Everything A Tight Canopy Creek Can Throw At You
The FoxFIRE is a multi-length zoom tenkara rod so you can fish it at 9.3ft, 8ft, or 6.6ft, with the simple zoom of a section. This gives you the ability to fish in some very tight casting quarters of overgrown creeks where the forest canopy does not allow you to use longer tenkara rods. Plus this flexible fiberglass rod design allows you to perform a perfect bow-n-arrow cast for when there is no casting room.
Sensitivity & Great Hook Sets
For the 3 tip sections of the FoxFIRE tenkara rod we incorporated a hybrid blend design of carbon fiber and fiberglass to achieve optimal tip flex, a solid hook set. This also increases the sensitivity of the rod so you feel it all at the handle.
Full Sized Cork Handle For Comfort & Control
There are many short fixed line rods that don’t even have a proper handle. Some people are OK with that but many people find that it causes hand fatigue and less control. The FoxFIRE Tenkara Rod comes with a full cork handle that is very comfortable to use. The two swells allow you to hold the handle in many different positions to match your preference or circumstance.
2 Brilliant Colors to Choose From
When using transparent glass, you can make a rod all kinds of fun colors that look awesome in the sun. We made the FoxFIRE rod in both green and blue colors so you can choose which brilliant color you like.
Enjoyable Feel Of Casting A Fiberglass Rod
There really is not anything the feels quite the same as casting a good fiberglass rod, carbon fiber just can’t give you that same wonderful feel. It allows you to slow your cast down and use less movement and energy to cast, it does a lot of the work for you if you let it. You can feel the rod load and unload in a way you have never felt before, it is just so much more enjoyable to me than a carbon fiber rod. Any of you who have come from a fiberglass fly rod background know exactly what I am saying.
Some of you may know this but the parent company that owns DRAGONtail Tenkara also owns Moonlit Fly Fishing, a company with a passion for making quality affordable fiberglass fly rods. We (Brent Auger and Brandon Moon) are so excited to bring the joy of casting a fiberglass rod to Tenkara fishing and the need for a flexible, but strong, short tenkara rod was the perfect opportunity to do that.
Perfect For Tagging Along With Any Outdoor Adventure
Tenkara is so compact, very light weight, and requires very little gear to fish. This makes it perfect for taking along with any outdoor activity. Take it backpacking, bike packing, road trip, kayaking, rafting, canyoneering, camping, hunting, biking, sightseeing, a Sunday drive, overlanding, or whatever activity you do.
Parts Availability & Warranty
All parts will be available individually on our DRAGONtail Tenkara website, as they are with our other rods. So if you accidentally break your rod you can replace the parts at a minimal cost.
We also have a One-Time Rod Replacement Warranty that allows you to replace your whole rod for a fraction of the price of a new rod. This is for those rare times when you have a really big accident and destroy most of the rod.
Why We Created Another Short Tenkara Rod
Many of you remember when we launched the Mizuchi rod 2 years ago. It is a great rod that gives you some great longer 11ft length and 2 shorter lengths in one rod giving you a very wide range to fish for open spots and tight spots in the same area. Some of the feedback we got from a few customers that mostly just fish the tight canopy creeks is that they wish the shortest length was softer casting action and they wished it went even shorter. We believe this rod it the perfect fit for those people.
