Today’s sound machines tend to either lack customization, or have a lot of features that are neat but not that important. Nocturne was designed to do basically one thing (enable you to mask sounds), and do it much better than anyone else.
Simply adjust the EQ sliders until distractions are less noticeable. No special knowledge required.
Nocturne’s patent pending technology offers completely customized masking. With a full-range EQ, you can adjust standard noise to better mask distracting sounds. For example, if you have high-pitched tinnitus, turn up the treble. If you have a snoring partner, more mid-range might help.
Phones are not good for sleep. First, they emit blue light, which makes your body think it might be daytime when you should be winding down. Second, they contain all kinds of distractions, like email and social media that can further stimulate your brain.
Nocturne does not have an app or subscriptions. Everything you need is built into the device.
In addition, all indicator lights on Nocturne automatically shut off after they are untouched for 3 seconds, so the device will help you keep your room dark.

Nocturne has two speakers, designed to provide the highest-quality sound for a device of this size. Our audio technology was optimized by a seasoned Silicon Valley sound engineer with experience on legendary products, including some of Apple’s audio devices.
There are five sounds, each meticulously recorded by one of the world’s foremost field recording artists. They were selected for their usefulness as sleep aids.
- Waterfall (natural pink noise*)
- Stream
- Ocean surf
- Rain
- Evening forest (think US east coast summer, with plenty of crickets)
*Pink noise is our default noise because it is the “flattest” noise in terms of how it sounds; every octave has equal energy. This gives you a clean slate from which to start making adjustments. White noise is flattest in terms of energy per frequency, but sounds higher pitched to the human ear.
Put Nocturne anywhere. All controls are in a remote, so you can control Nocturne from anywhere in the room.

Each shipment includes 1 Nocturne (speaker base + remote) as well as a USB-C charger and optional wall mounting screws. You won’t need anything else to get started.
Nocturne is almost ready for production. We had our first fully cosmetic and functional prototype last summer, which is the one we used in our video at the top of the page, and seen in the photo below. Since then we have been adapting the design for manufacturability and working out firmware bugs.
We will be kicking off tooling and ordering components before our Kickstarter ends!
Quality is critical to us, and we have baked in time to make sure every element is done properly, from stress testing the tooling to trial runs and reliability testing. We are actively working with our manufacturer on opportunities to shorten our timeline, but only in ways that keep quality a priority.
