The base of each BraBowl is made with Arita-yaki, a traditional Japanese porcelain craft with a 400-year history.
By combining this legacy with modern glass engineering, we’ve created more than a bowl — we’ve crafted a functional work of art.
Arita-yaki is one of Japan’s most celebrated porcelain traditions, with over 400 years of continuous history.
It originated in the early 1600s, when kaolin — the mineral essential for porcelain — was first discovered in the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture.
This discovery transformed the region into Japan’s first porcelain production center.
During the Edo period, Arita-yaki became so highly regarded that it was exported across Europe through the Dutch East India Company. Many of the pieces that arrived in royal courts and aristocratic homes are now preserved in world-class museums.
Over centuries, Arita-yaki developed a reputation for:
- Exceptional whiteness and strength
- Beautiful hand-painted designs
- Refined craftsmanship passed down through generations
- A perfect balance of durability and elegance
Today, Arita-yaki remains a symbol of Japanese artistry, combining traditional methods with modern innovation.

BraBowl is designed by Toyo Ceramics from Saga, Japan — a brand committed to blending craftsmanship and innovation.
Their vision: “Bring beauty and freedom to the everyday table.” That dream lives inside every BraBowl.
Satoru Kuno, the founder and Chairman of our company, was born in Nagoya as the youngest of seven siblings in a family that ran an appliance store. He grew up surrounded by creativity and inventive minds.
To study English, Kuno attended the Japan-America Institute of Management Science, and after graduating, he worked for a trading company in Tokyo. He later left the company and moved to Arita, his wife’s hometown.
In June 1986, he founded a company that manufactures and sells ceramic products. Since then, he has created a wide range of innovative Arita-yaki items, including Arita-yaki tajine pots and hybrid cookers, developing many unique products that combine traditional techniques with fresh, outside-the-box ideas.
This groundbreaking product is also the result of Kuno’s many years of experience and passion.
