Inspired by Professional Styling Techniques
The key turning point came after seeing how a stylist finished up hair.
Instead of using a comb, they used their fingers, which they widened, to hit the roots and bring air into the hair.
That was what created natural, dimensional volume.
The Volume Rise Comb recreates this movement of the fingers through its structure.
We have designed it so that it hits the roots, lifts, and brings air into the hair.
Just comb with the Volume Rise Comb and you are able to easily set your hair just like a stylist would.
The Difference with Volume Rise Comb
While traditional combs have a flat & straight design, which combs the hair neatly in a straight way, this means it has a single function and is uniform.
Our comb, on the other hand, has a three-dimensional design with a golden curve. The 3D design is based on pro stylist fingers. It has a unique design with registration underway.
Traditional combs compress with each stroke, meaning that the more you comb, the more air is taken out, which causes gravity to flatten the hair.
Our comb, however, is the opposite, weaving air in, giving a 3D Air Lift. Thanks to the special hook, air is injected into the hair. This creates a volume that lifts from within.
Styling with a standard comb relies heavily on the user’s technique; in order to reproduce the same style as a barber, years of practice and refined technique are required. On the other hand, our Volume Rise Comb builds that technique directly into its design. Thanks to the golden curve of the comb, it guides your wrist. This means that anyone can replicate a stylist’s finish in seconds.

The Story behind the Development of the Volume Rise Comb
■ The Impetus for the Start of Development: A moment of frustration in front of the mirror
Conventional combs are tools made to tidy the hair. However, in an ironic sense, the more you try to tidy, the flatter the crown of your hair becomes, the more air you take out, and overall, your hair looks flat and unkept.
The more you use a comb, the further away you get from your ideal style.
The Volume Rise Comb was created by Chihiro Yokota, who wanted to recreate a soft, voluminous, permed hairstyle on her own. But she has struggled with the problems mentioned.
Not being able to style their hair in the morning meant that day by day, they lost confidence.
This worry was maybe not a problem with the technique, but a problem with the tool itself. It’s from this thought that the idea behind this project was born.
She looked to create a tool that could consistently recreate that lifted, airy look, without relying on multiple steps or advanced techniques.
■ The Turning Point: The Magic behind a Stylist’s Fingers
Every time Chihiro left the salon, her hair looked effortlessly perfect. She wanted to understand why.
What was the difference?
One day, as she watched a stylist finish the final touches, she noticed something unexpected.
Without using a comb, the stylist used their fingers to run through the hair and lift it. By doing so, in an instant, the hair was given natural volume.
That’s when she realized:
Volume isn’t something give shape to, but is made by adding air.
She wanted to take this movement of a stylist’s fingers and the magic behind it, and make it so anyone could replicate it. In that moment, the path appeared before them.
In that moment, the idea for the Volume Rise Comb was born.
■ 20 Mold Revisions & 540 Days of Design
What we aimed for was not just simply combing, but a structure that, while adding air, lifts from the roots.
However, in order to bring that to reality was a truly desperate challenge.
It required precision down to the smallest detail:
- The exact hook angle to reach the roots
- The curvature needed to separate each strand
- Millimeter-level control over how force is applied
Just a difference of 1mm can kill the volume of the hair. Fine hair, coarse hair, straight hair, permed hair… Testing over various types of hair, we were able to arrive at our proprietary 3D Air Lift Structure.
