1. Hero / Project Snapshot

Dr Quest – Ocean Adventure
A family board game where kids trade, negotiate, and manage resources as they race to complete quests—building planning skill and basic business thinking while you simply enjoy the adventure together.

Ages: 8+
Players: 2–6
Play time: 30–45 minutes

Short enough for a weeknight. Long enough to feel like a real game. Every game becomes a new adventure—full of choices, risks, and surprising turns.

2. About Ocean Adventure

Dr Quest – Ocean Adventure is a family board game about collecting and managing resources, making smart decisions, and turning every turn into a story.

At its core, this is a game designed for play first—built on real learning principles, but experienced through fun, interaction, and discovery.

As you play, kids naturally practise:

  • Planning ahead instead of reacting
  • Managing limited resources
  • Weighing risk versus reward
  • Understanding value, exchange, and simple “good deals” through trading and negotiation – a gentle way to touch on basic business ideas without any formal lessons.

There’s no “lesson mode” and no pressure to learn.
The learning happens because the game creates situations where thinking ahead simply works better.

For parents, it’s a meaningful time together.
For kids, it’s strategy, interaction, and problem-solving—without it feeling like homework.

3. What’s in the Box

In every box of Dr Quest – Ocean Adventure:

  • 20 Quest Cards – Simple, clear objectives based on collecting the right combination of goods.
  • 100 Goods Cards – 4 types—Pearls, Compasses, Coins, and Cannonballs (25 each).
Each represents one unit and plays a different role in trading, missions, and conflict.
  • 10 Trade Cards – Structured market opportunities that shape how resources flow during the game.
  • 30 Event Cards – Unexpected twists that keep every session dynamic.
  • 6 Character Tokens + 6 Bases – Clear and durable for repeated family play.
  • 1 Game Board (50 cm × 50 cm) – Ocean-themed with room for movement, planning, and interaction.
  • 1 Six-sided Die

All components are designed for clarity, durability, and smooth play at the table.

4. How It Plays at Your Table

Your Goal

Be the first player to complete 3 Quest Cards.

Each player starts with 3 face-up quests, so everyone can see what others are working toward—opening the door for strategy, timing, and interaction.

On Your Turn

Every turn follows three simple steps: Roll – Move – Resolve

  • Roll the die
  • Move across the board in any direction
  • Resolve the tile you land on

Simple to learn—but full of meaningful choices.

What Makes Each Turn Interesting

Resource Decisions
You’ll constantly decide:

  • Do I use now or hold for better timing?
  • Do I risk carrying resources—or store them safely?
  • The Dock becomes a key strategic tool: Store any number of goods & completely safe from theft, but requires movement and timing to use

👉 This creates real planning and delayed-reward decisions.

Trading & Negotiation
There are two trading systems:

  • Trade (structured trade)
Trade using specific conditions from Trade Cards
  • Player-to-player trade
    Triggered through tiles or encounters
Fully negotiable—players can bluff, persuade, or walk away

👉 This is where personality comes in—kids learn how value, timing, and negotiation actually work.

Risk & Conflict (Clash)
When conflict happens, you choose to negotiate or battle

In battle:
 – Both players secretly commit Cannonballs
 – Reveal simultaneously
 – Winner takes all unstored goods

👉 High risk, high reward

As stored goods are always safe. Players must decide when to protect vs when to push. This creates powerful moments of tension, comeback, and decision-making.

Open Information Strategy
Because Quest Cards are visible:
You can predict opponents’ needs
Block, trade, or compete for key resources

👉 This turns a simple game into a dynamic, interactive experience.

Why Every Game Feels Different

  • Random events change the situation
  • Trades reshape the economy
  • Player decisions drive the story

No fixed path. No single winning strategy. Every session becomes its own adventure.

5. About Learning

While Ocean Adventure is designed as a family game first, it also works naturally as a learning tool. The mechanics encourage:

  • Planning and goal-setting
  • Resource management
  • Decision-making under uncertainty
  • Social interaction and negotiation

In other words, it’s a way for kids to experience basic business and planning skills in action, without ever feeling like they’re being taught a finance lesson.

That makes it suitable not only for home play, but also for:

  • Homeschool environments
  • Small group learning
  • After-school activities

All without changing how the game is played.

6. About Dr Quest

Behind the scenes, we approach game design from an education‑first perspective, then shape those ideas into play experiences that families genuinely enjoy. Our long‑term experience in real classrooms and learning centers is at the core of how we think about games, and it continues to guide how we build every new project.

We’ve already brought multiple educational products to market through our own channels in Hong Kong, and we’re using Kickstarter to help bring Ocean Adventure to more families around the world at the quality level we want from day one.

7. What They Said

These are exactly the kinds of reactions we heard again and again from our playtest families and learning centres.

9. Estimated Timeline

We want you to know exactly what we’re aiming for:

10. Risks & Challenges

Making and shipping a physical game is exciting—but it’s not risk‑free, and we want to be honest about that.

Production
We’re working with a trusted manufacturing partner in mainland China that we’ve collaborated with before. Even so, things like factory schedules, material availability, and longer quality checks can affect timing.

Shipping
Global shipping can be messy. Sea freight delays, customs procedures, and seasonal congestion can all slow things down, especially for international backers.

What we’re doing about it

We’re launching with the design already finished and the prototype in progress, so we’re not still figuring out the game while you’re waiting. Our schedule includes a built‑in buffer to handle reasonable delays in both manufacturing and freight. We’re using partners who know board game production and logistics.

Most importantly, we’re committed to clear, regular communication. If something changes, we’ll tell you what happened, what it means, and what we’re doing next. We’ve studied past Kickstarter projects—both the success stories and the cautionary tales—, and we’ve built our plan and buffers with those lessons in mind.

When you back Dr Quest – Ocean Adventure, you’re backing a project that’s already well advanced, with a defined production plan and a team that understands both education and tabletop game development—and takes your trust seriously.

11. FAQ

Q: What ages is this game best for?
A: We recommend ages 8+. Younger kids can learn the rules with a bit of help, and older kids will enjoy the extra strategy and choices.

Q: How hard is the game to learn?
A: It’s easy to pick up, but there’s real strategy once you start thinking about how to move, trade, and use your resources. Most families are playing comfortably after a few turns.

Q: Are the components safe for kids?
A: The game is made for ages 8+ and is not suitable for children under 3 because of small parts. We’re planning to meet the necessary CPC and safety requirements for the U.S. market, and we still recommend parental guidance, especially with younger players.

Q: What language is the game in?
A: Everything—cards, components, and the rulebook—is in English. There are no additional language versions in this campaign.

Q: Do you ship worldwide?
A: Yes. Our goal is to ship worldwide, making the game available in as many regions as possible, subject to local import rules and shipping conditions. We’ll list clear shipping details and costs for each region on the campaign page before you pledge.

Q: Does the game teach business or financial skills?
A: Ocean Adventure isn’t a formal business or money game, but kids do get to practise basic ideas like trading, negotiation, and thinking about value. It’s more about experiencing these concepts in a playful way than following any strict “lesson plan”.
