TACTICALGEEK × Hidetoshi Nakayama
STEAMPUNK LAUNCHER BALLPOINT PEN
Designed by Hidetoshi Nakayama
Developed and Manufactured by TACTICALGEEK
The Gennai Pen SL01 is an exclusive collaboration between Japanese artist Hidetoshi Nakayama and TACTICALGEEK.
Nakayama’s original works are usually handmade by the artist in very small quantities, making them rare and highly collectible.
With the support of Kickstarter, TACTICALGEEK is bringing his distinctive mechanical design into small-batch production while staying true to his original vision.
Our goal is to make this unique design available to more EDC enthusiasts around the world — to carry, use, and collect.

Hidetoshi Nakayama’s
SIGNATURE MECHANICAL STEAMPUNK AESTHETIC
Hidetoshi Nakayama’s work is known for its distinctive mechanical steampunk style, combining the metallic character of 19th-century machinery with the elegance of the Victorian era.
The Gennai Pen SL01 carries this design language forward.
Exposed screws, layered construction, and a Telegraph Key–style lever mechanism create a highly recognizable mechanical appearance.

A ballpoint pen transformed into a compact mechanical object, blending industrial aesthetics with everyday functionality.

More than a pen, it is a mechanical EDC collectible — where industrial aesthetics, precision engineering, and everyday functionality come together.

CLICK TO EXTEND. PRESS TO RETRACT.
The top of the pen uses a classic ballpoint-style push mechanism. Press the button, and the refill extends with a crisp, satisfying click.
The Telegraph Key–style button on the body retracts the refill. A light press brings it back instantly, delivering a clear and powerful mechanical response.

Click. Retract. Repeat.
Top Button
→ Extends the refill with a crisp mechanical click.
Telegraph Key
→ Retracts the refill with a smooth, satisfying motion.
Together, they create a complete mechanical cycle
you’ll want to experience again and again.

MORE THAN WRITING. A MECHANICAL EXPERIENCE.
Even when the refill is not extended, the Telegraph Key-style button can still be pressed repeatedly.

Not Just a Pen. A Mechanical Experience.
The Telegraph Key delivers a smooth and satisfying mechanical response with every press.
At your desk, on the go, or during moments of thought —
it is always ready to be enjoyed.
Write with it.
Play with it.
Experience the mechanism.

This is a one-of-a-kind artist piece, created through the collaboration of Hidetoshi Nakayama × TACTICALGEEK and individually hand-engraved by artist Xunmu.
It brings together:
Nakayama’s signature mechanical pen design
TACTICALGEEK’s EDC aesthetic
Xunmu’s distinctive hand-engraving craftsmanship
More than a functional writing instrument, it is a truly unique piece of mechanical art — made to be collected, appreciated, and treasured.

Mechanical Punk Pocket Clip
The pocket clip is not a simple fixed clip. It follows the same mechanical punk design language as the rest of the pen.
Press the top of the clip, and the lower section opens smoothly for easy attachment to a pocket, bag, or EDC organizer. Release it, and the clip locks back into place.
From the top button to the Telegraph Key to the pocket clip, every interactive part is designed to deliver a clear mechanical feeling in daily use.

Why Kickstarter?
The Gennai Pen SL01 features a complex mechanical structure that requires precision machining, careful assembly, and strict quality control.

Based on our current production capacity, we estimate that this release will be limited to approximately 2,000 pens, although the final quantity may vary depending on actual manufacturing conditions.
Kickstarter helps us confirm demand, prepare materials, and move efficiently from prototype to production.
Every backer helps bring this limited collaboration to life.

Developed with TACTICALGEEK’s EDC Experience
TACTICALGEEK has extensive experience in developing EDC gear and maintains strict standards for structure, materials, details, and quality control.
This pen is designed by Hidetoshi Nakayama and developed, produced, and quality-controlled by TACTICALGEEK. Our goal is not just to create something visually unique, but to deliver a mechanical ballpoint pen that is suitable for daily carry, long-term use, fidgeting, and collecting.
To give every backer greater confidence, each Steampunk Launcher Ballpoint Pen will come with a lifetime warranty.
