Hey, I’m Marco, the founder and CEO of Spiny.

I’ve spent 20 years in engineering, and most of my life around bikes.

As a rider, I wanted what an e-bike gives you: more help on the climbs and extra assistance when you don’t feel like pushing. What I didn’t want was to replace the bike I already loved, or permanently change it.

So we built the option I wished existed: an easier and better way to add e-bike power to your bike.

Spiny 2 gives the bike you already own e-bike-level electric assist without changing what you already love about it: the frame, the feel, the familiarity. Clip it on in 3 seconds when you want the extra help. And when you don’t, turn the assistance off or clip off Spiny 2 and enjoy your bike just as it is.

3 seconds. That’s all it takes. Clip Spiny 2 on whenever you want electric assist and you’re ready to ride.

The best part? Spiny 2 is anti-theft by design: park, clip it off just as quickly and take the whole powered unit with you. And for brief stops, add the optional anti-theft lock and key to secure Spiny 2 to the bike.

The first one-time setup takes about 10 minutes. After that, everyday use is just clip on, ride, clip off.

We didn’t want you to have to choose between keeping your bike and getting the power of an e-bike.

Spiny 2 delivers up to 750W* peak power, giving you the extra push to take on steep climbs, ride farther, and pedal with less effort.

It’s still your bike, just with more help when the ride asks for it. And all of it comes at a fraction of what a new e-bike would cost.

*Power and max assisted speed vary by region.

Spiny 2 works with the bike you already own, without permanently changing it. No new wheels, no swapping brakes, no rebuilding anything around the motor. You keep your frame, your gearing, your setup.

It fits most standard road, city, touring, and hybrid bikes, with both rim and disc brakes.

How to check if it fits:
For regular bikes, look for about 4 finger-widths (~7 cm) of space between your frame and rear wheel, and confirm your bike doesn’t have rear suspension. If both check out, Spiny will work with your bike.

Tight frame? The Sport Adapter has you covered.
No rear suspension, but less than 4 finger-widths (~7 cm) of frame clearance? The Sport Adapter repositions Spiny 2 higher on the frame to clear the gap, so it sits fully in place with solid grip on the tire. Look for about 10.5–15 cm between your saddle and rear tire to confirm it’s the fit.

Brompton folding bike? The Brompton Adapter handles it.
Folding bikes have less room to work with, so the Brompton Adapter splits the unit: a separate motor mounts close to the tire, connected by a longer cable to the battery, which attaches to the frame. Same assistance, built to fit the Brompton folded bike’s tighter geometry.

For exact fit requirements and more compatibility details, see the full Compatibility section below.

Still not sure?

We didn’t want a lightweight system to mean short range.

Spiny 2’s built-in 266Wh battery gives you up to 90 km / 56 mi of assisted range on its own.

For longer rides, add the optional Extra Battery Pack to the bike frame and double your available range to up to 180 km / 112 mi.

That’s up to 180 km of electric assistance from a system that still stays lightweight, compact, and removable.

The battery uses the same battery chemistry found in electric cars and charges fully in around 4 hours, or around 2 hours with the optional Fast Charger.

Extra Battery Pack sold separately. Actual range varies based on terrain, rider weight, riding style, assistance level, and riding conditions.

As a rider, I know how quickly extra weight changes the way a bike feels.

That’s why keeping Spiny 2 light was important from the start. The complete powered unit, including the motor, battery, and electronics, weighs just 2.2 kg / 4.9 lb.

So your bike stays easy to carry up stairs, take on a train, or load into the car. And when you don’t need electric assist, clip Spiny 2 off and take it with you.

You get the extra help without turning your bike into something heavy.

Spiny 2 was developed by our engineering team after years of designing, testing, and improving the idea in the real world.

The first generation reached 500+ riders, giving us direct feedback on how Spiny 1 performed in everyday use and what we could make better.

That experience became the foundation for Spiny 2. So you’re not getting a first attempt that still needs figuring out. You’re getting our improved second generation, shaped by hundreds of real rides and real customers.

Not every ride needs the same amount of help.

A flat commute, a long Sunday ride, and a steep climb all ask something different from you.

That’s why Spiny 2 gives you 5 levels of electric assistance, from a light boost that helps preserve range to maximum assistance when you want the ride to feel easier.

You choose the level. Spiny 2’s speed and cadence sensors monitor your ride in real time, helping deliver the speed, power, and assistance precisely the way you want it.

Switch between them on the go from the Spiny app or the Bluetooth Remote Controller (optional add-on).

Power through rain, mud, and snow! Spiny’s patent-pending high-traction grip maintains consistent contact with your tires, without any slipping or performance loss, in any weather condition. So you can keep with e-assistance, no matter what.

Connect Spiny 2 to the app via Bluetooth to change assistance levels, check battery, see your speed, and follow ride data in real time.

Prefer to keep your phone away? Add the optional Bluetooth Remote Controller and change assistance levels straight from your handlebars**.

We’ve built Spiny 2 with an aluminum and iron construction to ensure durability across thousands of rides. And we’re serious about it. It’s minimal, functional, and built to last without degradation.

Spiny 2 works with most standard bikes.

Rim or disc brakes. Both work.

Spiny 2 works across different tire widths and standard adult wheel sizes.

You need around 4 finger-widths between the frame and rear wheel for the standard mount. Not enough clearance? Add the Sport Adapter for tighter-fitting setups.

*Rear-suspension bikes are not compatible with the standard setup.

Brompton bikes require the Brompton Adapter. Other folding-bike compatibility depends on the frame setup.

If your rear fender covers the contact area, a small section will need to be trimmed.

* The spot where Spiny touches the tire needs to be open. If your mudguard covers it, a small cutout is needed. Otherwise, Spiny works perfectly.

Follow the simple steps and ride electric. Set up once, then clip on and off in 3 seconds.

  1. Attach the Mount
Clip the frame bracket onto your bike’s seat post.
  2. Install the Sensors
Place cadence and speed sensors on the crank and wheel.
  3. Position the Motor
Align Spiny’s drive wheel against your rear tire.
  4. Ride!
The motor detects your pedaling and activates automatically.

Spiny 2 is already in the production stage, with development, prototyping, and testing behind us. Now the focus is on manufacturing and getting every unit ready for delivery.
